The incident happened on Sunday as the cyclist was on his way to a charitable BTT bike ride organised by local PSP police.
He was accosted by the suspect, who despite twice trying to yank the €4,000 e-bike from the cyclist, eventually gave up and ran off.
But, as providence would have it, he ran off in what was undoubtedly the wrong direction, as just around the corner, a mass of police officers was gathering ahead of the charitable BTT ride.
The surreal incident was caught on camera by the cyclist’s bike-cam, which he then posted on Youtube.
Commenting on the video, he explained: “I had just left the shop with a test bike and was on my way to the mountain bike ride organised by the PSP (Higher Institute for Police Sciences and Internal Security - ISCPSI) and this ‘artist’ tried to steal my bike; he was unsuccessful the first time, and then he tried to grab my arm.”
The mugger was caught and detained.
