Lidl to stop selling plastic bags by end of year

German supermarket Lidl is to stop selling plastic bags in all of its stores in Portugal by the end of this year.

The measure will be gradually implemented in phases starting in northern Portugal in May. With this decision, Lidl Portugal will stop selling 25 million plastic bags marketed at 10 cents each – which represents a turnover of about 2.5 million euros per year.
