The index, compiled by Deutsche Bank, takes into account eight factors, including purchasing power, safety, healthcare, climate and cost of living. Researchers said Lisbon affords residents a very handy commute, with the city finishing ninth in the traffic commute time index.
Climate is another big bonus, with Portugal’s capital finishing third in that ranking. The list is topped by Wellington in New Zealand, with Edinburgh taking the runner-up position.
This follows another study that found Lisbon residents to be extremely pleased with the quality of cafés and restaurants in the city, but are equally unhappy with traffic and housing costs.
In a study made on the quality of life in the capital, residents were mostly all satisfied with the standard of leisure activities, including green spaces and shopping.
However, traffic, a shortage of parking spaces and above all, housing costs were found to result in a drop of the levels of satisfaction of Lisbon’s residents.
