Lisbon tourist tax to pay for new electric urban cleaning project

The tourist tax levied in Lisbon is to be put towards helping a new urban cleaning project.

The €1 per person per night surcharge is to finance electric street cleaning vehicles in what will be a pilot project for the city.

The council is taking delivery of 10 of the vehicles today, which are 100 percent electric and produced by Mitsubishi Bergé Portugal and will soon start being exported to the USA. Amsterdam, Berlin, London, New York and Tokyo.

The vehicles will be used to clean the most tourist-heavy areas of Lisbon, such as Belém, Estrela and Park of Nations.
