Bicycle stations have been gradually built throughout the city, in central Lisbon and the riverside to Belém, downtown Lisbon and Park of Nations, and should now be in their final stages of preparation.
Managed by municipal mobility company EMEL, 140 stations kitted out with 1,410 bicycles should be ready for use by the start of next month.
A pilot project initiated in Park of Nations with 100 bicycles at 10 stations was launched on 21 June, and saw more than 2,000 people enrol.
The main objective of this initiative is to get the city pedalling, regardless of age, in aid of this over 900 of the shared bicycles are electrically assisted.
To adhere to the shared bicycle network, an app – the Lisboa Bike Sharing App – should be downloaded onto mobile phones, after which users can choose one of three schemes; a daily pass (€10), a monthly pass (€15) or an annual pass (€25).
