More doctors to be hired for Algarve

The government has authorised the hiring of four more family doctors for health units in Loulé, Silves, Lagoa and Tavira.

An additional doctor is also due to start work in Portimão next week. The Government authorised the opening of proceedings to fill the four vacancies in the Algarve, one in each of the afore-mentioned centres, as part of a national tender.

I hope that the government realises how important it is to have English speaking doctors on the Algarve. The expat community, if all the news hype is to be believed, is growing almost alarmingly and people are at their most vulnerable in an ill-health situation. It's critical, obviously, to be able to communicate effectively. As an expat, I'm learning Portuguese but it's an extremely difficult language to learn and takes a long time.
