Of the 429 offenders detained, 127 were arrested for driving while over the legal alcohol limit.
Preventative police action leading to the arrests was staged between 10 October and 16 October in various parts of the country, focussing especially on busy roads.
During the action more than 22,500 vehicles were inspected, over 37,000 were controlled by radars, and 45 vehicles were seized.
