More than one in five workers on minimum wage

There were 670,000 workers in Portugal on a minimum wage in December 2017, 9% more than 12 months earlier, the government said.

Some 20.4% of the country’s work force was being paid the minimum possible by law in December.

This means that an extra 55,500 workers were being paid just €557 a month at that time.

The minimum wage went up to €580 at the beginning of this year.
