Mourinho was accompanied by long-term assistant manager Rui Faria to deliver a talk at the Faculty of Human Kinetics at Lisbon University on Tuesday evening.
Questioned by reporters over possible transfer targets in Portugal, Mourinho said: “Am I going to take players from Portugal? None, none at all. I’m not taking anyone from here”, the United coach said.
Concerning reports over the Reds signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the positive comments he has uttered about the Portuguese manager, Mourinho explained: “True friends always praise each other.”
Concerning his duel with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, Mourinho said that while in Spain it was “either him or me, Real Madrid or Barcelona”, it would be different in England, and if the two managers were to spend their efforts neutralising each other, “another team, which is not United or City, will end up winning.”
They were invited as special guests to talk to a post-graduation class about high performance football coaching.
Mourinho was in Portugal a day after he was given a tour of United’s training facility at Carrington.
