Portugal started the second half in the lead but in the 55th minute Spain’s Diego Costa turned in Busquet’s header from a free kick, equalising at 2-2.

Nacho took Spain into the lead in the 58th minute with a spectacular first goal for his national side. Ronaldo was not finished for the night, though and an 89th minute free kick brought the game back to a tie. It was his 45th free kick for Portugal in an international tournament and only the first one he scored.

Portugal and Spain kicked off their first group B match in Sochi at 9pm local time on Friday. Earlier in the day Iran - coached by former Portugal national manager Carlos Queiroz - beat Morocco 1-0 in Saint Petersburg after a Moroccan own goal.
