Speaking to Lusa at the end of last week, Mr John Pearson said this €30 million investment would be structural for DHL Express and Portugal as it would allow the country to become a real cargo distribution hub for North Africa, Angola, Mozambique and Brazil, “markets that have a high amount of cargo every day and it would bring great economic benefits to the country and Portuguese exporters”.
The negotiations with Portuguese airport manager ANA and the government to buy or rent the land to build the new hub, similar to the investment the company made in Porto airport, have been going on for some years.
The initial investment of €10 million has now gone up to €30 million.
