The Algarve, parts of Alentejo and Madeira are to be affected by dust from North Africa until Friday the Portuguese weather agency (IPMA) said on Thursday.

North Africa pressure system colours sky

IPMA told reporters the situation was due to a low pressure system over Morocco that was carrying suspended dust from North Africa in its winds.

The system is affecting a huge area from Tunisia to the Canaries as well as the Iberian Peninsula and Madeira.

The weather agency said the dust gives the sky a yellowish colour but it should gradually disappear over the coming days.

On Thursday 23 Feb I found my car covered in large orange blobs of mud. All the cars in Silves were the same, but east of Silves the cars were clean. I live near Odelouca.
