In 2018, 36,786 cruise passengers visited the city, which is up 23 percent on 2017, despite five fewer ships having docked there than the year before.

The rise is therefore due to bigger ships visiting the Algarve’s only cruise port. Portimão has become Portugal’s fourth busiest port, after Sines, Leixões, and Lisbon.
