According to reports the Air Berlin Airbus A320-200 was over the Atlantic Ocean, en-route from Las Palmas, CI (Spain) to Zurich (Switzerland), last Wednesday 10 June when the crew noted a crack developing in a cockpit windscreen.
Aviation website Aviation Herald reported the decision was made to turn right towards Casablanca (Morocco) before the crew reportedly “initiated a rapid descent (…) then turned back to the north and diverted to Faro (Portugal) for a safe landing on runway 28 about 55 minutes later.”
A spokesperson for Air Berlin confirmed to The Portugal News “as a precaution a flight was diverted on 10 June 2015.
“There were signs that one of the cockpit windows was developing a crack and the crew decided to land at Faro. All 103 passengers stayed at a hotel and flew to Zurich the next day.”
