On Monday, the Environment Ministry said it had sent a complaint to Brussels regarding Spain’s decision to build a nuclear waste warehouse in Almaraz, without considering the trans-border
consequences.
The Portuguese government believes the project breached European law as “cross-border impacts were not evaluated.”
Last week, during a meeting held on Thursday in Madrid between the Portuguese and Spanish environment Ministries, the Spanish government suggested that Portugal should carry out such studies. This was refuted by the Portuguese government, which believes it is Spain’s responsibility.
