Young Portuguese singer Leonor Andrade, 21, failed to secure enough votes to be put through to Saturday night’s live final with her song ‘Há Um Mar Que Nos Separa’ (‘A Sea Separates Us’.).

She took to the stage in Austria last night to battle it out for a place in the final with 16 other entries including from Poland, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Sweden and Malta.

The first round of semi-finals was held on Tuesday night (19 May).

Born in September 1994 Leonor Andrade began playing the piano at the age of four. She was chosen to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna after winning the Portuguese Festival da Canção, having been invited to lend her voice to the song ‘Há Um Mar Que Nos Separa’ written by Miguel Gameiro.

This weekend’s Eurovision Grand Final is the 60th time the event has been staged and this year will be held in Vienna after Austrian cross-dressing performer Conchita Wurst won last year’s competition with his song ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’.

The UK and Spain were among eight countries that automatically qualified for this year’s competition, with Australia also being invited for the first time to take part as a guest country.

The full line up of 27 finalists, and in running order for tomorrow night’s show, is: Slovenia, France, Israel, Estonia, United Kingdom, Armenia, Lithuania, Serbia, Norway, Sweden, Cyprus, Australia, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Montenegro, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Romania, Spain, Hungary, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Albania, Italy.

The running order was determined by the producers of show (ORF) and approved by the EBU Executive Supervisor, Jon Ola Sand and by the Chairman of the Reference Group, Dr. Frank-Dieter Freiling.

Bookies’ odds place Sweden as this year’s favourite to win.

The Eurovision song contest will be broadcast on Portuguese channel RTP 1 as well as by British broadcaster BBC, on Saturday night (23 May), starting at 8pm.
