Portugal President starts three-day trip to Mozambique for Nyusi inauguration

Portugal's president, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, on Wednesday started a three-day trip to Mozambique, during which he is to take part in the inauguration ceremony in Maputo on Thursday of that country's new head of state, Filipe Nyusi.

Portugal's deputy prime minister, Paulo Portas, is to accompany Cavaco Silva on the trip, and will represent his country's government at the ceremony in Maputo.

Cavaco Silva's visit will also have an economic and business side to it.

The trip begins on Wednesday with a meeting with Mozambique's outgoing president, Armando Guebuza, followed by a visit to the local operations of a Portuguese-owned company, MCM - Mozambican Cotton Manufacturers. The day ends with a meeting with Portuguese entrepreneurs active in Mozambique.

Nyusi's inauguration is to be on Thursday morning in the Praça de Independência in Maputo, followed by an official reception in the Ponta Vermelha palace.

On Friday, the Portuguese head of state is to meet Mozambique's president and other local figures, as well as members of the Portuguese community in the country.
