Portugal pulls out of bidding for Euro 2020

Portugal has officially withdrawn from staging a bid to be a hosting city in the Euro 2020, which will be played in up to 13 countries.

The news was confirmed yesterday when Lisbon Town Hall followed the position taken by Oporto to not launch a bid to become a host city.

While neither of the cities provided a reason for not seeking a repeat of the Euro 2004 success, the Portuguese Football Federation said the decisions were understandable and that it was up to local councils to balance the cost of staging such an event against potential gains.
