The Ashley Madison website hack, which has seen the details of up to 39 million people in 48 countries revealed, has resulted in an infidelity map being drawn up by a Spanish company Tecnológica.
Regarding Portugal, 86.2 percent of Ashley Madison’s customers are married men looking to have no-strings-attached affairs with married women.
There are locations in the country where this rate is even higher, with the south-western Algarve town of Aljezur have 25 members, all of whom are men for the only 100 percent ratio in the country, the infidelity map shows.
But it is Oporto that leads the rankings, with 7,365 users. The Greater Lisbon Area follows, with a number of cities in the periphery all showing more than a thousand followers.
Faro tops the rankings in the Algarve, with 1,179 registered users, followed by Albufeira and Loulé. No users are reported in Portimão or Lagoa, but several can be found in Lagos and Silves.
Globally, the Brazilian city of São Paulo tops the list, with 374,544 users, followed by New York with 268,247.
Many of these followers are likely to have cancelled their membership in the wake of the recent hacking of the site, but even the promise of a return to anonymity in exchange for 20 dollars to delete a user’s history has not stopped hackers from accessing all the site’s data back to its inception.
