Portuguese scientists discover new dinosaur species

Two palaeontologists from Lisbon’s Nova University announced yesterday that they have discovered a new species of carnivorous dinosaur, believed to be 150 million years old, in Lourinhã.

The species is also believed to have been one of the biggest terrestrial predators of the time.

 

Palaeontologists Christophe Hendrickx and Octávio Mateus said the dinosaur was similar to one already discovered in the United States, but found anatomical differences which mean it can be classed a different species, now named the torvosaurus gurneyi.
