Portuguese tennis player Frederica Piedade, made history this week when she became the country’s highest ever seeded women’s player on the WTA Tour Circuit.

Frederica Piedade broke the record held by Sofia Prazeres this past week when she climbed to number 151 on the rankings, one above the previous high for a Portuguese women’s tennis player.
While Prazeres only claimed one ITF title, Piedade has already won nine tournaments at this level, but increased competition on the women’s circuit, has seen points become harder to come by.
Meanwhile, the Algarve’s Rui Machado continues to be country’s top ranked player following a good performance at a Challenger tournament last week.
The player moved five places up in the rankings to 254, 19 places above his nearest Portuguese challenger, Frederico Gil.
