According to a statement released this week by West Yorkshire police, the couple, Margarida Rufino, aged 38 and her 37-year old husband Anthony Roberts, were pronounced dead at their home.
Margarida, also known as Guida, had suffered several cuts to her face and neck, while Roberts suffered a leg wound.
West Yorkshire police said that while they are dealing with the case as a murder inquiry, they are not looking for any further suspects.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Scott of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said in a statement that “the police investigation is still at an early stage, however we are treating this as a murder enquiry.
“A full post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death for both Ms Rufino and Mr Roberts.
“At this stage we are satisfied that no other parties were involved in the incident.”
Rufino was a company director at Leeds Occupational Health, which provides medical advice and clinical support across the north-east of England. Roberts is believed to have been a cousin of the snooker star Paul Hunter, who died from cancer in 2006 aged 27.
The couple’s two-year old daughter, who was not home at the time of the incident, is being cared for by family members.
She attended a nearby private day nursery from where Hayley Wright, the manager of the nursery, told the Telegraph & Argus that she had called the parents’ mobile phones on Monday morning after news of the incident broke.
“There was no answer,” she said. “I cried and was in shock. I still do not believe it. Mum said on Thursday: ‘I cannot wait for my daughter to start talking and to say I love you mummy.’”
She said staff were “really upset” and had not noticed anything untoward about the couple.
Detectives continue to appeal for anyone who heard or saw any suspicious activity in the Cross Road area at around 6pm on Sunday to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team or report anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.
