The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has said that the United States “is a priority for Portugal” and that the two countries could “have new connections in the field of energy, in the future”.

De Sousa was speaking at the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon at the launch of the book “Ten Million and One” by the former US ambassador in Portugal, Roberto Sherman. The President stressed that Portugal was “one of the very few” European countries “that can understand the USA fully, and that are truly transatlantic.”

Comments:

I am an American who is thinking of moving to Portugal in 2019, after spending a month in Tavira in October. De Sousa needs to realize the US is currently led by a Salazar-type, illegally-elected racist and probable felon. I would not strengthen ties with the US until it returns to being democracy. Obrigado.
