Among those detained, 261 were taken to police stations for drug trafficking, 208 on outstanding warrants, and 193 for driving without a licence.
The second phase of the PSP’s Safe Summer operation spanned 16 July to 15 August.
During this period 281 weapons were also confiscated, 148 more than during the first phase, and around 88,500 doses of drugs were seized.
Traffic-wise, overall, the PSP inspected more than 74,900 vehicles, resulting in 1,557 fines for drink-driving, 5,979 for speeding, 716 for lack of MOT, 700 using mobile phones while driving, and 218 for lack of insurance, among other offences.
Based on provisional data the police force registered fewer accidents on roads than during the first phase, the same number of fatalities (seven), and fewer injuries.
The third phase of Safe Summer Operation 2017 runs until 15 September.
