During the summer the Algarve’s INEM fleet will be bolstered with a further seven ambulances and two motorbikes.
The prootcols were signed at the start of this week, on Monday, in a ceremony attended by dignitaries including INEM chairman, Dr. Luís Meira, ARS (Algarve Regional Health Board) chairman, Dr. Paulo Morgado, the head of the Portuguese Firefighters’ League, Dr. Jaime Marta Soares, and Dr. Norberto Martins, head of the Faro Branch of the Portuguese Red Cross.
A protocol was also signed for the construction of a medical emergency post at the fire station in Alcoutim.
During the ceremony, Dr. Paulo Morgado said “today is a very important day for the Algarve. With these protocols, it is possible to reinforce INEM’s resources in the region, which will cover twice as much as what was covered last year.
“This effort on behalf on INEM means investment. The more resources that exist on the ground, the greater the investment that INEM has to make, so I thank INEM as, despite the difficulties, it was able to find the means to put in motion a better service and more security for our population.”
New ambulances will be stationed in Portimão, Tavira, Faro-Loulé and Albufeira-Silves, while INEM emergency motorbikes will be posted in Portimão and Albufeira.
An extra ambulance and motorbike were also operational in Faro to cover this week’s Faro Bike Meet.
