A new study into Portugal’s dietary habits has revealed that the elderly drink too much alcohol; young people drink too many soft drinks, and the nation in general consumes too much meat and not enough fruit and veg.

There are the findings of a National Food Survey which concludes the country’s diet is still far off a healthy Mediterranean diet.

 

Carried out for the first time in 35 years and based on input from 6,533 respondents, the research also found that teenagers consume too much sugar, and the vast majority of men and women both eat too much salt.
