Latest figures published by the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) show that just under 95,000 collisions were reported on Portuguese roads during the first nine months of the year.
This is up by around five thousand on the same period last year and almost ten thousand higher than in 2014.
Traffic-related deaths have however continued to fall, and are down ten percent on last year for a total of 324.
Serious injuries have also dropped by a similar rate.
