In an article on the magazine’s website, the festival - which is held every other year at Idanha-a-Nova, in Castelo Branco district, is listed alongside major festivals in the US and elsewhere such as Burning Man (staged in Nevada), Symbiosis Gathering and Lightning in a Bottle (both in California), Envision (Costa Rica), Beloved (Oregon) and Shambhala Gathering (Canada).
The magazine notes that Boom has been held since 1997 and is well known abroad, with some 85 percent of attendees coming from outside Portugal.
The festival is described as “a throwback to the bohemian and spiritual vibe of the 1960s, mixed with the phenomenal food, music and performance art of the Iberian Peninsula.”
The magazine also highlights its policy on sustainability and the music “decidedly mellower” than at some other festivals.
