The minister said that sardines were a resource of “strategic importance” for Portuguese fishermen, the canning industry and for exports and it was of particular importance to many fishing communities.
“It is essential that this resource is exploited in a way to ensure long-term environmental sustainability”, Ana Paula Vitorino said.
