The airline said the works would be conducted at night so as not to affect flights and involve ensuring the same safety conditions whether there is rain or not.

SATA explained that the works, called ‘grooving’ aimed to improve the aircrafts’ grip and improve the removal of surface water from the runway through grooves that are cut perpendicularly across the runway.
