In total, 5,051 crimes were perpetrated in and around Portugal’s schools.
The PSP, which patrols large cities, registered 4,102 crimes, up 172 on occurrences from the year before. On its part, the GNR logged 949 situations.
According to the PSP’s ‘Safe School’ report, the majority of the crimes happened inside school grounds and involved incidents of theft or physical harm.
Other figures from the PSP indicate that violence between young couples at schools has also escalated; last year that police force took note of 1,680 reports of violence between love-struck teens, the majority of cases involving exes.
