In the Brussels region Estela Costa (Saint Gilles municipality, for the Socialist Party), Patrícia Rodrigues da Costa (Jette, for the Socialist Party Differently) and Inês Rodrigues (Evere, for the Ecolo party) were elected. The three candidates are the first Portuguese women to be elected in Brussels.

Four Portuguese candidates were elected in the Wallonia region – Sandra dos Santos Gomes (Bièvre municipality, for the EPV party), Marie-Jo Sampaio (Comblaint-au-Pont, for the ECD party), Domingos Ribeiro de Barros (Soignies, for the Socialist Party) and David da Câmara Gomes (Ottignies-Louvain-La-Neuve, for the Ecolo party).

No Portuguese candidates were elected in Flanders.

Almost 100 Portuguese or Portuguese descendants were candidates.

The number of Portuguese people registered to vote in the elections increased in absolute terms but decreased in percentage terms, according to the figures from the election office.

Of the 37,641 of voting age, 3,611 were registered to vote at these elections, or an increase of 560 voters compared with 2012.

In Belgium, there are more than 500 communes (municipalities) across the three regions of the country: Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders.
