"A new political culture of government entirely confirmed with the centrality of democratic and parliamentary debate and that makes scrupulous respect for the constitution a point of honour” said Costa who also claimed that his government reflected the clear desire for change expressed in the 2015 election results that “created the conditions to turn the page on austerity.”

Costa said that this involved his government’s “commitment to respecting rights and replacing the earnings of people and households, complying with core criteria for justice, without ignoring the added efforts required due to the turndown in world economic growth."

In addition to showing the capacity to prevail over the difficulties arising, Costa placed his faith in the national reform program his government is now embarked on as a means of correcting macroeconomic imbalances and overcoming structural issues over the course of time."

Highlighting how the European Commission had given the program its seal of improvement, Costa kept it political in adding that the program “marked a turning away from the wrong strategy, competitiveness through impoverishment, followed in recent years.”

Costa then provided examples such as the Simplex+ package of measures designed to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of the state alongside “promoting the national health service and state schools" with a further emphasis on pro-entrepreneurial measures due to be launched in early June.
