Spain ensured all the agreed amounts of water in the Douro, Tagus and Guadiana regions, with only a few small exceptions, Portugal's environment minister, Joao Pedro Matos Fernandes, said on Tuesday.

The water in the Guadiana and Douro met all the parameters concerning water flow, while the Tagus had a week in which the water flow did not meet the agreed amounts, due to works at a dam. This was compensated the following week with the flow going back to normal.

Rainfall in Spain was 66% of the average and it is suffering from a drought, just as bad as here in Portugal. If it had been 65%, Spain could have said it was in an exceptional situation, which it didn't do”, he stressed.

ZERO, a Portuguese ecology NGO, said that Spain had not been complying with the agreed river levels.
