The mother, who was driving the children, was caught with a rate of 2.4 grams of alcohol per litre of blood, almost five times the limit, while the father, behind the wheel of another car, was found with a rate of 1.4. However, the father was given the heavier sentence as he had been caught four times before on drink drive charges. The children have all been placed in care with their status being re-evaluated every three months.
