The Sagres set sail from Lisbon on Tuesday after a ceremony where the Portuguese prime m minister delivered the national flag to the ship’s captain to be taken to Rio and handed over to the country’s standard bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2016 Olympic Games.

During its crossing of the Atlantic, the Sagres is first going to call at Praia, in Cape Verde, and then at Recife, in Brazil between 19 and 22 July and Salvador da Baía, between 26 and 28 July.

The Sagres is scheduled to arrive in Rio on 3 August, where it is going to be the Olympic HQ, in a partnership between the Portuguese navy and the country’s Olympic committee.
