Pires de Lima said the taxi drivers’ had spoken to the economy and justice ministries, so they could “sit down with the regulators and Uber to see how the different services could be regulated in the future”.
Lisbon taxis protested again last week against companies that use Uber, following a week of ‘spontaneous’ actions to remind the minister of its ‘obligations’ that drivers need to be licensed.
On 8 September over 3,500 taxi drivers from Lisbon, Oporto and Faro protested against the Uber app which they say is illegal, despite being highly popular especially with tourists arriving at the country’s main airports.
