On this the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” we will remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today. 100 years on from the Armistice which ended the carnage of the First World War, we will remember also the terrible losses of the Second World War, and all the wars which have been fought since that day, as we stand by our pledge to the fallen that “we will remember them”.
The main Remembrance Sunday Service in the Algarve will start at 10.50am at St. Luke’s Church, Palhagueira, when wreaths will be laid on behalf of the British Community by the British Consul, Simona Demuro, and by members of the Royal British Legion. There will also be Remembrance Services at Praia da Luz Church at 11.30am and at Lisbon, Oporto and Madeira.
At Poppytide the British Community throughout the world keeps the faith with those who died, and the visible representation of that Remembrance is wearing a Poppy with pride and keeping the Two Minute Silence at 11am on 11 November – Remembrance Sunday. Sandra Wilkinson
