With no league fixture until the first week of January, FC Porto and Sporting will see in the NewYear level on points at the top of the Primeira Liga.

Porto won 3-1 at home to Madeira outfit CS Marítimo whilst Sporting overcame a stubborn Portimonense 2-0.
The Algarve team played the last thirty-five minutes with ten men after Hackman picked up a couple of yellow cards within the space of three minutes. Benfica, who remain three points off the pace, thrashed Tondela 5-1 away from home. In the third tier, Campeonato Portugal, SC Farense lead the way in Division E with SC Olhanense in fourth place some eight points behind their archrivals. Non-league Farense have reached the last eight of the Portugal Cup after a fifth round victory in the Azores against SC Praiense thanks to a Fabrício goal. In the quarter-finals the Faro-based club will play away against the winners of the Caldas SC/Académica tie.
