According to Global Blue, purchases by tourists from China accounted for 13% of the total last year, and their total value was up 42% on 2014. The mean value of such purchases was more than twice that for tourists from Angola, who spent €273.

Among other nationalities that made most purchases in Portugal and subsequently claimed back sales tax, US tourists spent 30% more last year than in 2014, putting them into the top five and second in terms of mean transaction value, at €493.

Angolans last year accounted for 42% of the whole market, but their total purchases fell by 8% in value. Brazilians also spent 12% less for a market share of 16%, and a mean transaction value of €219.

Mozambique nationals, who accounted for 4% of the market, spent 19% more than in 2014. The mean per transaction was €227.
