Festive friendly as Forest win against Olhanense

There was a carnival atmosphere in Olhão last Saturday as 300 Nottingham Forest fans arrived for a pre-season game against Olhanense.

The travelling fans were warmly welcomed by the locals and British Expat Supporters with much good humoured banter before, during and after the game. Twice winners of the European Cup, Forest have built a fast attacking side that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season. With the Olhanense defence all at sea, it was the visitors who raced into a 2-0 lead after just 20 minutes. Goals came from the experienced Robert Earnshaw and young Matt Thornhill.
Olhanense’s Mozambique manager Daúto Faquirá rang the changes at half-time and Toy reduced the arrears with 15 minutes to go. Forest manager Billy Davies and his staff were most impressed with the warm welcome given to their players, officials and fans.
The following night (Sunday) Olhanense lost 3-1 to Spanish La Liga side Athletico Bilbao in Ayamonte. Bilbao took the lead through Ustariz after half-an-hour with Gurpegui adding a second on the hour. Djalmir pulled one back for the Algarveans on 70 minutes before Diaz de Cerio added the final goal for Bilbao five minutes later. Clecio (ex. AIK, Switzerland) and Yontcha (ex. Belenenses) stood out for Olhanense.
Olhanense will unveil their new kit at the Ria Shopping Centre, Olhão tonight (Friday) at 9.00pm Everyone welcome. Tomorrow (Saturday) Olhanense entertain Belenenses, relegated from the Premier League last season, at the Jose Arcanjo Stadium with a 7.00pm kick-off. Socio-members €2.50 and non-members €5.
On Wednesday 28th July Olhanense travel the short distance to Faro to take on old rivals Farense at the São Luis Stadium (adjacent to Faro Hospital). Kick-off to be confirmed at www-scolhanense.com
