Paulo, cousin of the renowned octopus Paul that successfully guessed the outcome of Germany's matches in the 2010 football World Cup tournament, has arrived at Sea Life in Oporto, where he will be tasked with predicting Portugal's performances during the Euro 2012.
Paulo has allegedly inherited his German cousin's psychic gift and will be called on the eve of Portugal's matches during the Euro 2012 to predict whether the team will emerge as winners or losers.
During the group stages of the Euro, which will be held in Poland and the Ukraine in June, Portugal will face Germany on 9 June, Denmark on 13 June and Holland on 17 June.
It is hoped Paulo will show a win for Portugal ahead of their first match.
During Germany's World Cup matches, Paulo's cousin Paul was given a choice of two boxes in his tank, each with a mussel and a flag of one of the teams playing in the following day's match. Each time, Paul chose the box for the winning team, becoming a world wide success as many different countries would follow the octopus' football predictions. Overall, Paul correctly predicted eight match results, including the victory of Spain in the final.
His cousin Paulo arrived in Portugal on Tuesday as part of a temporary exhibition entitled 'Polvomania' featuring all manner of different octopus species until the end of the year.
