White stork rescued after being shot

A white stork is currently recovering at the Ria Formosa Wildlife Research and Recovery Centre in Olhão after being shot.

According to newspaper Correio da Manhã the stork, which is thought to be around 4-years-old, was found with 10 led pellet injuries all over its body, four days ago in Ourique.

Storks are a protected species in Portugal; hunting them is banned and shooting them is a punishable crime.
