Teresa Ponce de Leão, told Lusa News Agency that half the installed potential in Portugal came from renewable energy, divided almost 50:50 between wind and hydro plants.

“There have been days when the entire country’s consumption came from renewable energies”, she said, adding that Portugal have made a great effort “to ensure the (electric) interconnections with the European grid are viable”. “So we can take advantage of these resources and export the left-over power to other countries”.

Last week, Portugal, Spain and France signed a declaration in Madrid, committing themselves to work to take the Iberian Peninsula out of its isolation in terms of electric connections.
