Renovations on the venue on Avenida Miguel Bombarda were started in January 2010 but suspended in June 2011 after the previous council failed to pay the general contractor their dues.
However, according to a statement from Portimão Town Hall, after holding talks with the contractor with a view to taking up the work, the current council board and the service provider have reached an agreement which will allow work on the pavilion to be concluded during the course of this year and put an end to ongoing legal action.
Work on the facility was estimated at €1.228.085, with around €460,000 of the work still outstanding.
But, the Sports Pavilion today already looks much different than it did a number of years ago.
Inside it will be laid out so athletes and spectators do not cross paths, it will have a number of different sports rooms and changing rooms, four public bathrooms and a separate bathroom for referees, two disabled bathrooms, two reception areas and an office.
The benches will have 325 seats, 14 of which are for disabled spectators and their companions.
The pavilion will also be fitted with a natural gas system and solar panels to become more energy-friendly.
