According to El País, the new minimum wage is being increased by 8 percent up to €1,080 and will benefit about two million workers.

With this agreement, explains the same newspaper, the executive from neighbouring Spain is getting closer to his commitment to raise the minimum wage to reach 60% of the average wage in the country.

By way of comparison, in Portugal, the national minimum wage increased by 21.6 percent between 2018 and 2022, while in Spain it rose by 35.9 percent in the period under review.

In Portugal, the new minimum wage that has been brought in as of this year stands at €760, although this payment is made over 14 months which in real terms takes it up to around €886.
