This year, the winter was very cold and the need for energy consumption was higher due to lockdown measures. In January, domestic consumption of electricity increased 31 percent in the same month of 2020 (data from DGEG).

In the first quarter of 2021, aid requests received at DECO on energy billing increased by 61 percent, compared to the same period in 2020.

We also remember that the Government launched an extraordinary support on the electricity bill, which was based on a 10 percent reduction in the tariff, which, despite being worthwhile, is a small support comparing to the energy bills increase.

For this reason, DECO wants to support consumers to manage their energy consumption, having created the Energy Advisory Office (GAE), which is available to all consumers.

GAE has a team of 35 technicians able to inform and help the Portuguese to improve the efficiency of their homes, manage their consumption, understand the functioning of the energy market, as well as resorces to support mechanisms in situations of energy poverty.
