According to today's epidemiological bulletin, the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley continues to have the most new confirmed cases, with 340 of the 612 registered in the period under review.

The two deaths recorded today by the DGS were registered in the regions of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and the Centre.

Regarding hospital admissions, data from the DGS indicate that there was no change in relation to the previous day, that is, 265 patients remain hospitalised.

Already in the intensive care units (ICU), there are 52 patients, one more patient compared to the day before.

Data released by the DGS also show that 353 more cases are active, for a total of 23,715, and that 257 people were reported as recovered in the last 24 hours, increasing the national total to 811,897 recovered.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 17,034 people have died in Portugal and 852,646 cases of infection have been diagnosed.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities remained unchanged from the previous day, standing at 25,398.

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus in Portugal remains at 1.08 and the incidence rate of infection cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days is 69.8.

Rt and incidence data are updated on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 340 new infections were reported, again the highest number nationwide, with 323,105 cases and 7,217 dead so far.

The Northern region observed 151 new SARS-CoV-2 infections, totalling 341,380 cases of infection and 5,356 deaths since the onset of the pandemic crisis.

In the Centre region there were 49 more cases, totalling 120,143 infections and 3,025 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 19 new cases of infection were reported, totalling 30,276 infections and 971 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin from the DGS informs that 30 new cases were registered, accumulating 22,423 infections by SARS-CoV-2 and 363 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded two new cases, totalling 9,756 infections and 69 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, and according to DGS, the Azores presented 21 new cases, which raises to 5,563 infections since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths, 33, remains unchanged.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Still on the demographic characterization of confirmed cases, the DGS bulletin states that the highest incidence is found in age groups between 20 and 59 years.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,946 were men and 8,088 women.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.
