According to today's epidemiological bulletin, the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region continues to have the most new confirmed cases, with 348 of the 598 recorded in the period under review, representing 58.1 percent of the total.

As for hospitalisations in the infirmary, data from the DGS indicates that there are five more people hospitalised, totalling 296.

In intensive care units (ICU), there are 66 patients, seven more than the day before.

The data released by the DGS also show that 193 fewer cases are active, for a total of 23,631, and that 790 people were reported recovered in the last 24 hours, which increases the national total to 812,964 recovered.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 17,037 people have died in Portugal and 853,632 cases of infection have been recorded.

The death recorded today occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region.

The number of contacts under surveillance by health authorities has risen by 341, now totalling 26,692.

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Portugal is currently at 1.07 and the incidence of infection per 100,000 inhabitants has risen by 72.2.

In the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 348 new infections have been reported, with 323,659 cases and 7,219 deaths counted so far.

The Northern region now has 129 new SARS-CoV-2 infections, totalling 341,602 cases of infection and 5,357 deaths since the pandemic began.

These two regions account for 79.7 percent of the total number of new infections in the last 24 hours.

In the Centre region, 60 more cases were registered, accumulating 120,221 infections and 3,025 deaths.

In Alentejo 20 more cases were reported, totalling 30,309 infections and 971 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today's bulletin reveals that 18 cases have been registered, accumulating 22,473 infections and 363 deaths.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira has recorded nine cases, adding 9,765 infections and 69 deaths due to Covid-19 since March 2020.

The Azores have 14 new cases today and count 5,603 cases and 33 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The regional authorities of the Azores and Madeira release their data daily, which may not coincide with the information released in the DGS bulletin.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 388,168 men and 465,076 women in Portugal, DGS data show, according to which there are 388 cases of unknown gender, which are under investigation as this information is not provided automatically.

Of the total number of fatalities, 8,948 were men and 8,089 women.

The highest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total number of deaths, 11,188 were people aged over 80, 3,632 were aged between 70 and 79, and 1,535 were aged between 60 and 69.

The pandemic has caused at least 3,739,777 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 173.5 million cases of infection, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
