According to the ICA, from January to 31 May, 386,518 spectators and 2.1 million euros in box office revenue were accounted for, as cinemas were practically closed during the second period of lockdown between 15 January and 18 April.

The figures show that the biggest share of revenues and audience in cinemas was mainly in May, with 299,601 spectators and 1.6 million euros at the box office.

This year, until the end of May, the most watched film by the Portuguese in cinemas was the award-winning "Nomadland - Surviving in America", by Chloé Zhao, with 51,229 viewers, followed by the cartoon "Raya and the last dragon", by Don Hall and Carlos Estrada, with 37,644 spectators. The most watched Portuguese film until May, but whose premiere had already taken place in October 2020, was "Listen", by Ana Rocha de Sousa, with 1,132 viewers, followed by "Prazer, camaradas!", by José Filipe Costa, with 793 spectators.
